How to secure fire damper function with manual override?

The patented Halton Smart Override function, which is by the way also approved by notified bodies, gives you the possibility to open the damper manually in a more safe way.

When it comes down to electrical or pneumatic actuated fire dampers, the damper blades close automatically during a power outage. In normal conditions this is an important safety feature. But in practice, there can be cases during power outage, during loss of air pressure or during commissioning when you might need to enable ventilation and thus have the blades in open position.

FOR EXAMPLE during building phase the construction network electrification is not yet complete; you might need to manually open the fire dampers to secure airflow throughout the installation.

Many of our customers don’t know yet, but we have developed a more clever system to manually open the blades than using a basic handle.

OUR SYSTEM IS CALLED HALTON SMART OVERRIDE FUNCTION AND THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
The patented Halton Smart Override function, which is by the way also approved by notified bodies, gives you the possibility to open the damper manually in a more safe way.

In traditional manual override versions, you need to return to the damper location and manually connect the damper drive shaft back in connection with an actuator. As with Halton Smart Override, you only need to restore the power and the system connects automatically the actuation mechanism to normal operation. Usually the dampers are located in places that are difficult to access and therefore the Halton innovation saves substantial amount of working hours. More importantly it improves safety – with Smart Override you don’t need to worry about the dampers staying in manual mode (after the power has been established).

The challenge with the traditional manual override has been also the false indication of the damper status. Even though the damper has been manually opened, the indication through the sensors has shown the status as closed. Now with the Smart Override function the real status of the damper is retrieved correctly from the additional limit switches.

There is a real difference, don’t you think?
