Halton Vita Lab Room

Halton Vita Lab Room provides intelligent and efficient control of laboratory pressure and thermal comfort for optimal space management.

The Halton Vita Lab Room solution allows the control of the room pressure and temperature in order to prevent the dispersal of contaminants and to ensure optimal air quality and comfort in the laboratory.

Due to the flexibility and precision of the pressure measuring mechanism, Halton Vita Lab Room enables a continuous control and monitoring of pressure in the laboratory. Overpressure is used to keep the contaminants outside the laboratory room while underpressure control ensures that contaminants stay inside the laboratory room.

The solution provides the user with following advantages:

  • Controlled over/underpressure which ensures safety by containing contaminants.
  • Safe operation at all times; in case of the air pressure changing outside the assigned value range, a visual and acoustic alarm is triggered.
  • Consistently optimal indoor air quality.
  • Thermal comfort with minimum energy usage.
  • The room configuration can be changed flexibly without disturbing the operation of the room.

Halton Design Studio

Selecting, planning and designing the optimal solution are the first steps of a successful implementation. Halton offers the following services in the design and planning phase to help you reach the best possible end result and life cycle performance of your Halton Vita Lab solution:

  • Advanced project design and support in the concept creation and design phase to specify and customize the optimal solution in co-operation with your design team, when safety, comfort and life cycle performance targets are set.
  • Halton computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation is a cost-effective method of testing and validating the selected solution before realization. Computer-based flow simulations are used to optimize room conditions and compare alternative solutions during the design or the pre-design phase.
  • Halton Mock-up services are used to ensure that the indoor climate conditions are in accordance with the system safety and comfort design and features. Tailored tests and mock-ups are strongly recommended especially for special rooms and other demanding situations where the loads and the ventilation system differ from standard applications. Mock-ups are performed in Halton Innovation Hubs.
     

Halton Tune

Halton offers comprehensive commissioning and start-up services for demanding Halton Vita Lab solutions, in order to ensure optimal safety and comfort conditions, as well as functionality and energy performance of the delivered solution according to industry standards. Standard commissioning and start-up services include:

  • Checking of the following prerequisites, which are to be performed by the customer or subcontractors of the customer, prior to implementation of any Halton Services on site:
    • General power supply is turned on
    • Ventilation is stabilized and pressure rates between spaces are set correctly
    • All units and components related to the Halton project scope are installed correctly, including all sensors and panels
    • Air-handling unit, airflow control damper and duct pressure adjustment functionality is verified
    • Supply and exhaust airflows are measured and set correctly
    • Power is supplied to all controllers, airflow control dampers and actuators
    • All required controllers are connected to the BMS
    • All other cabling and connection tasks specified in the order documentation are done correctly
  • Verification of general system implementation according to good practice
  • Start-up of the system:
    • Finalization of operational parameter settings to controller software and actuators
  • Calibration of all sensors
  • Airflow measurements and finalization of ductwork balancing
  • Testing of system functionality and performance
  • User training for all space users and technical personnel, concerning system characteristics, performance, operation principles (with regard to the automation system) and proper maintenance of potential faults.
     

Halton Life Cycle

Halton offers preventive maintenance services for all demanding solutions. Our maintenance services include performance validation of the system and changing of spare parts, according to solution-specific maintenance agreements. With our maintenance services, we offer extended warranties for all Halton Vita Lab solutions.

Halton Vita Lab Room (VLR)

The Halton Vita Lab Room solution allows the control of the room pressure and temperature in order to prevent the dispersal of contaminants and to ensure optimal air quality and comfort in the laboratory.

Room airflow control (A)

Room airflow control is suitable for spaces where the need for pressure control less rigorous. The system adjusts the room pressure by measuring and controlling the difference in the airflow between the supply and exhaust.The over- or underpressure levels can be adjusted from the Halton HTP touch panel.

The system can be applied to single fume cupboard ventilation and centralised ventilation ductwork solutions.  
 

There are two control concept options for the level of airflow control:

Supply airflow control

  • Ventilation and pressure levels in the room are adjusted by controlling the supply airflow rate only.
  • Configuration is ideal for spaces where the existing laboratory exhaust units provide sufficient airflow to ensure optimal conditions.

Supply and exhaust airflow control

  • Ventilation and pressure levels in the room are adjusted by controlling both the supply and the exhaust airflow rates.
  • Solution provides an excellent control of the conditions in the laboratory.

Room pressure control (B)

Room pressure control is suitable for spaces where safety requirements are exceptionally high. The room pressure is adjusted based on measurements from a room pressure transmitter.

The functionality available for this application:

  • Room pressure control
  • Air change rate control; used to ensure a minimum room air change rate, when the exhaust equipment is not able to guarantee a minimum air change rate in the space
  • Temperature control

Control concepts

  • Overpressure: VAV supply (controls air change rate), VAV exhaust (controls room pressure)
  • Underpressure: VAV exhaust (controls air change rate), VAV supply (controls room pressure)

Total exhaust measurement (C)

This application is used to control the pressure differences by measuring the total exhaust airflow rate from the Halton Vita Zone damper, which also manages the duct pressure, then adapting the airflow supply to create an airflow-rate difference inside the room.

The room air change rate can also be controlled in this application, by the exhaust VAV damper.

The temperature inside the room can also be controlled with either a combination of a heating coil and an exhaust damper or a heating coil and a cooler.

In order to avoid too much airflow being extracted from the room (a simultaneous coefficient not being respected on the fume cupboard), this application can lower the zone airflow by closing the zone damper if the total exhaust airflow is too high. The airflow will then be insufficient on the fume cupboard and will trigger the acoustic alarm.

This application provides the following controls:

  • Room airflow difference with the supply damper
  • Room pressure differencewith the supply damper
  • Air exchange rate by the exhaust VAV damper
  • Room airflow difference (∆Q) with the supply  damper
  • Controls of the air exchange rate with the exhaust VAV damper
  • Controls of the room temperature (optional)
