Maija Virta Nominated to REHVA Board
REHVA (the Federation of European Heating and Air-conditioning Associations) is a European umbrella organisation that promotes economical, energy-efficient, and healthy construction. The association elected new Board members, and Maija Virta, the customer relations director of Halton Solutions, was nominated to the Board as a representative of the Nordic countries and the HVAC industry.
REHVA comprises 30 member organisations in Europe, representing 110,000 building engineering scientists and practitioners. The mission of the association is to develop and disseminate economical, energy-efficient, and healthy technology for mechanical services of buildings. As an important area of operation REHVA contributes to the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) objectives by conducting a range of projects. The association has launched, for example, projects for development of advanced, sustainable ventilation technologies and study of thermal comfort in buildings with low-energy cooling. In addition, REHVA publishes books offering guidance in various areas of building engineering.
REHVA elected the new Board at its meeting in Berlin on 11–13 April 2008. Mrs Maija Virta was elected to the Board as the representative of the Nordic countries and the HVAC industry. Virta is the customer relations director of the Halton Solutions business division, developing indoor environment management services, and the vice-president of the Finnish HVAC Association. Virta has contributed to the development of chilled beam technology and has edited REHVA’s Chilled Beam Application Guidebook No. 5. ‘Sustainable energy usage is more important than ever. REHVA’s role in contributing to the development of European legislation in this area is significant. In addition to promoting sustainable practices, I will also focus on well-being of people,’ comments Virta as the newly elected REHVA vice-president.
The chairman of the REHVA Board is Professor Francis Allard from France. Other Board members are Prof. Michael Schmidt from the University of Stuttgart, in Germany; Dr Zoltan Magyar from the University of Pécs, in Hungary; Dr Ioan Silviu Dobosi of the company Dosetimpex S.R.L., in Romania; Maija Virta, M.Sc. (Eng.) from Halton; Docent Karel Kabele from the Czech Technical University in Prague, in the Czech Republic; and former CIBSE president Donald Leeper, B.Sc. (Hons) from Zisman Bowyer & Partners - Consulting Engineers, UK.
