Function

Airflow control unit Halton HHW maintains the required airflow independent of duct pressure variation.
The unit contains two averaging airflow measurement probes, airflow controllers and actuators. Airflow is controlled based on actual flow measurement by changing the damper blade position.

Quick facts

  • For demand based airflow control
  • Includes 2 pressure-independent airflow controllers
  • Integrated 230 VAC transformer with plug cable connection
  • Screw terminals for low voltage cable connections

Apartment ventilation

The Halton HHW is well suited for apartments and spaces where low sound level is appreciated.

The Halton HHW unit with CRA24-B3P room controller has been especially adapted to the requirements of demand controlled ventilation for individual apartments. Control by CRA24-B3P maintains pressure balance in varying operation conditions like kitchen and bathroom airflow boost.

Occupants can select between three different airflow rates:

  • MAX       Boosted airflow for temporary use for example for
                  high occupancy rate  (Boost).
  • MIN        Minimum airflow to ensure hygienic conditions while
the apartment is unoccupied (Not at home / unoccupied) .
  • COMF    Normal airflow to ensure comfort conditions while the apartment
is occupied and on normal daily use (At home / occupied).

See more details on Room Controller tab.

General use

The Halton HHW unit can be used in combination with several room controller types.

Room controller can send current airflow rate setpoint to the Halton HHW by 2–10 VDC control signal. The airflow setpoint can be linearly modulated between minimum and maximum values for example based on space temperature and/or CO2 level.

Accessories

The CRA24-B3P room airflow selector can be added as an accessory. See more on Room Control section.

Room Control

Airflow rate selector

With the CRA24-B3P room controller, occupants can select between three different airflow rates.

  • MIN (Not at home / unoccupied) – Minimum airflow to ensure hygienic conditions while space or apartment is unoccupied
  • COMF (At home / occupied) – Normal airflow to ensure comfort conditions while space or apartment is occupied and on normal daily use
  • MAX (Boost) – Boosted airflow for temporary use for example for high occupancy rate

The airflow rate is selected by pushing a room mode push button. LED indication light will display the current room mode. In practice, the CRA24-B3P airflow selector will send an operation mode voltage signal to HHW airflow control unit.

At start-up the minimum and maximum airflow rates are set to supply and exhaust airflow controllers of the Halton HHW unit. The medium airflow can be adjusted between 30 – 70% of the maximum airflow by internal potentiometer of CRA24-B3P.

Min and max airflow settings of the Halton HHW

The Halton HHW minimum and maximum airflows are factory pre-set according to the order information. Values can be modified on site by using a hand-held ZTH-GEN tool or PC tool.

The diagnostic sockets U5/1 and U5/2 are used to connect on site tool with the airflow control unit. This makes physical access to airflow control units themselves unnecessary and makes the service of the unit effective and there is no need to open the ceiling void for airflow settings.

Override functions

The use of override functions for airflow boost shall always follow local regulations.

Kitchen hood on max flow

  • when kitchen hood is connected to separate exhaust duct

Pressure conditions are balanced in case the kitchen hood fan or the separate exhaust duct installation extraction is on maximum airflow by reducing general exhaust to minimum airflow.

  • 3rdparty potential free contact – see K1 on wiring diagram

Kitchen hood on max flow

  • when kitchen hood is connected to HHW exhaust duct

Supply and exhaust airflow rates are increased to maximum value to increase the kitchen hood extraction and keep desired room air pressure balance.

  • 3rdparty potential free contact – see K2 on wiring diagram

Bathroom on max flow

Supply and exhaust airflow rates are increased to maximum value to increase the bathroom extraction and keep desired room air pressure balance.

  • 3rdparty potential free contact – see K2 on wiring diagram

Installation and servicing

The Halton HHW is installed into the ceiling with M8 drop rods (not supplied in the delivery).

Connect the Halton HHW to the ductwork with a spigot equipped with an integrated rubber gasket.

If the Halton HHW is installed above suspended ceiling, an access door shall be placed beneath the Halton HHW for service. Minimum size of the access door is 350 x 450 mm.

For service, unplug the 230 VAC power supply and other cable connections of the Halton HHW unit. Control unit can be removed from the Halton HHW unit and the duct can be accessed for cleaning by unscrewing the access panel screws.
