Expertise in highest efficiency kitchen ventilation solutions specific to Asian cooking processes
Halton Innovation Hub, Selangor, Malaysia
In cooperation with Halton’s China innovation centre, this Hub develops ventilation solutions that address the demands and needs of the Asian cooking modes and their specific cooking appliances.
Specific cooking appliances call for specific expertise, design considerations and solutions.
High input power wok burners, high capacity rice cookers, dim sum steamers or tandori ovens are just some examples of heavy duty cooking appliances that characterize the Asian cooking modes. Some of them require customized manufacturing measures for the hoods or ventilated ceilings used downstream of the ventilation systems. ALL of them require a specific skill and knowledge to correctly assess and address the heat, smoke, and steam loads released to determine the exhaust’s most efficient levels.
Asia is the region where the display kitchens are in more widespread use and growing, with some of the most audacious architectural projects.
Together with the expansion of its manufacturing capacities for Asia, Halton decided very early to invest in R&D centres dedicated to this specific market. They have naturally evolved into two additional Innovation hubs to address the growing demand for your specific needs.
Come experience where our innovations grow and how we carry out your projects’ tests
The Malaysian Innovation Hub is equipped with an Analog Schlieren scope system and a Shadowgraph measurement device to enable accurate capture and containment simulations for multiple hood models in different configurations such as wall-mounted or island installation, with solid fuel and Asian cooking appliances.
These advanced technologies are capable of measuring and providing accurate data of the invisible air movements of convective heat by visualizing the density difference of air. The capture and containment measurements offer a major advantage to ensure high performance for the development of new kitchen ventilation products.
The efficiency of Halton’s core technologies such as Capture Jet, Displacement and Low Velocity Ventilation, Capture and Containment analysis can be demonstrated effectively to customers during visits to our Innovation Hub. These simulations provide an important baseline as design criteria to continuously provide the best possible indoor environment quality in high performance kitchens.
The first product developed at Halton’s R&D center in Malaysia was Halton MobiChef mobile cooking station.
It was launched in 2014 in Singapore. It is now also manufactured in France for the European market, Australia, and the United States, and Canada for the Americas region.

Selangor Innovation Hub is aligned with the two Halton’s Asian Center of excellence in manufacturing kitchen ventilation solutions. Here is the background of Halton’s presence in Asia.
In 1996, Halton took a strategic step in development in the Asian market with the inauguration of its first local factory in Port Kelang, Malaysia, a year before the major economic crisis that impacted South-East Asia countries. Sixteen years later, the factory and its R&D center moved to new premises of 5000 m². Twenty-five years later, Halton employs over 250 people.
The factory specializes in manufacturing commercial kitchen ventilation solutions designed for hotels and restaurants as well as institutional and corporate catering, chain restaurants and quick service restaurants in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to hoods and ventilated ceilings, the factory also manufactures Halton’s kitchen-specific and advanced pollution control units.
Halton Asia has teams working in thirteen countries in the region, two other factories in China, and a manufacturing partner under licence in Australia.
