Enhancing Hygiene and Safety in Galleys with High-quality Performance

August 26, 2025

The ship’s galley, where daily meals are prepared, is a confined space that requires effective management of heat, smoke, and grease vapor. Improper ventilation leads to lingering odors, poor thermal comfort, and a significant fire risk from accumulated grease in exhaust ducts. Halton KWH galley water wash hood is specifically designed to tackle these challenges in galleys. It uses innovative technology and user-friendly features to effectively safeguard cleanliness and safety in the galley environment.

Certified to USPHS standards, Halton KWH is constructed of polished stainless steel (AISI 304 standard, with AISI 316L available). This material offers exceptional corrosion resistance, making it ideal for humid galley environments. Its smooth surface and rounded corners also minimize areas where dirt and grease can accumulate, simplifying cleaning and maintenance. The joints at the lower edges of the equipment are welded watertight, thus avoiding water spillage during cleaning and keeping the galley floor dry and hygienic.

Halton KWH is equipped with Halton patented Capture JetTM technology to reduce the exhaust airflow rate required while improving capture efficiency, thereby supporting the energy conservation requirements of ships at sea. The integrated KSA multi-cyclone filters use centrifugal force to remove grease and contaminants from the air stream, while the optional Mesh Filter further enhances performance by balancing airflow and doubling filtration efficiency. The remaining grease is then eliminated by the optional UV technology, which significantly reduces the amount of grease entering the exhaust ductwork, thereby mitigating the fire risk caused by grease accumulation at its source.

The automated water wash system of Halton KWH provides an efficient solution to the common challenge of high maintenance in galleys. This innovative feature eliminates the need for frequent manual removal and cleaning of filters. At scheduled times, the washing control cabinet (CCW-M) stops the hood operation and initiates a cleaning cycle. Hot water with a mild detergent is pumped through the hood spray nozzles, washing the critical parts of the exhaust plenum including KSA filters and, if equipped, UV tubes.  The waste from the washing cycle is then drained from the hood via the drain connection. This fully autonomous operation drastically reduces the need for crew maintenance. By ensuring the filters are cleaned regularly, the system maintains optimal performance and prevents hygiene issues caused by a buildup of grease and contaminants.

Engineered for long-term maritime operations, Halton galley hoods deliver consistent cleanliness and safety. With high-efficiency of grease filtration and advanced water wash technology, it prevents fire risks and sanitation issues while drastically reducing crew workload. A trusted solution for galleys, Halton galley ventilation ensures a healthier and safer environment at sea.
