FDA Fire and Gas Damper, Certified Reliability for Maximum Safety

September 16, 2025

Fire poses a constant threat on ships due to confined spaces and dense equipment. Thick smoke spreads rapidly through ventilation ducts, impeding evacuation and accelerating the fire by drawing in fresh air. Since maritime rescue is often delayed, containing the fire at its source is vital to protect lives and assets. Reliable fire and gas dampers are therefore essential. Halton FDA fire damper, certified, durable, and rigorously tested, is a critical component designed to meet this exact need in any shipboard fire safety system.

The reliability of Halton FDA fire damper is evidenced by its authoritative certifications. It is type-approved by major classification societies for fire ratings from A-0 to A-60, ensuring compliance with various safety requirements across different zones. Additionally, ATEX/IECEx-certified are available for environments where explosive atmospheres may occur. These dampers provide critical protection for high-risk applications such as fuel tank areas, offshore platforms, and chemical carriers, ensuring enhanced safety where it matters most.

FDA A0(A60) fire and gas damper

Halton FDA fire damper is precision-engineered for reliable performance. The damper blades are equipped with stainless steel spring seals for minimal leakage during normal operation, as well as thermal expansion graphite seals that become effective at 150°C to ensure tight sealing in the event of a fire, effectively preventing the spread of flame and smoke through ventilation ducts. In its closed position, the damper achieves leakage class 3 (EN1751:2014) for units larger than 300×300 mm, ensuring consistent sealing performance.

Halton FDA offers two types of fusible actuators: a nominal strip fuse with release temperatures of 50 °C, 74 °C, or 100 °C, and an optional glass bulb fuse with temperatures of 68 °C or 93 °C. Other temperatures are available upon request to meet specific application requirements.

Halton FDA is constructed with a double skin blade structure, making it lightweight. It operates reliably at duct pressures up to 5000 Pa and airflow velocities 15 m/s, even in extreme ventilation scenarios. With an operating temperature range from -50 °C to +80 °C, it performs consistently across harsh marine environments. Other temperature settings are available to meet specific project requirements, ensuring trusted smoke and fire protection when it’s needed most. It can be installed in both rectangular and circular ducts, and non-standard sizes are available upon request to accommodate custom requirements. This flexibility allows for adaptation to a wide range of duct configurations, simplifying installation planning. In the open position, the damper operates smoothly without significant pressure loss, noise, or airflow disturbance, ensuring efficient daily ventilation performance. In the event of a fire, it closes promptly and reliably to provide an effective barrier against smoke and fire. An external open/close indicator allows for clear and immediate identification of its status.

Designed for ships and offshore platforms, this fire damper ensures critical safety with high-performance seals and reliable operation. It provides essential protection against fire and smoke, making it a certified and vital component for Marine, Offshore, and Heavy industry.
