Icon of the Seas was built by Meyer Turku in Finland and made its debut in January 2024 as the latest flagship of Royal Caribbean International.
Halton supplied a range of HVAC equipment for the Icon of the Seas cruise ship, including a customized modular pollution control system and approximately 1,500 dampers, including fire dampers, gastight shut-off dampers, and airflow management dampers.
The customized Halton PolluStop modular pollution control system was installed to manage galley exhaust air. The traditional method of directing galley exhaust to a separate grease funnel was not possible in two galleys due to the height and location of the grease funnel. Halton’s PolluStop system solved this problem by allowing the exhaust air to be blown out directly from the galley to the deck. The system has a five-fold filtration system, including UV-light technology and HEPA filters, to ensure the released air is purified, resulting in a cleaner output.
The FDB2 and FDL fire dampers ensure safety by preventing the passage of flames and hot gases through the ventilation system, thereby minimizing the risk of fire spreading to other areas of the ship. The UTG gastight shut-off dampers and UTT, PTS, and UKV airflow management dampers regulate, control, and balance airflow in ducts, emphasizing tightness, thermal insulation, and reliability.
