AIDAprima, the flagship of AIDA Cruises, is currently under final construction in Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Nagasaki, Japan. The ship measures 300 meters in length and 37.6 meters in width, while its draft is 8 meters and gross tonnage is 124,500.
The shipyard chose USHIO Reinetsu Co., Ltd., Halton’s Japanese distributor, to supply Halton’s demand-based ventilation system for all of the ship’s galleys in order to meet the optimal energy efficiency requirements for galley ventilation specified by the owner.
Halton M.A.R.V.E.L. is a demand-based galley ventilation system that is designed specifically for Halton hoods to optimize their efficiency and minimize the environmental footprint. Compared to traditional hoods, the Halton M.A.R.V.E.L. system, combined with the Capture Jet technology*, can save up to 50 % in galley ventilation energy consumption. Halton believes that this means also substantial energy savings in AIDAprima’s galleys.
So, how does it work? In traditional systems, the galley airflows are maintained at a constant level, whereas with M.A.R.V.E.L. the ventilation exhaust and supply air volumes are adjusted according to the actual need. The system identifies the status of cooking appliances and optimizes the needed exhaust airflow for each galley hood. At the same time, the system also ensures comfortable conditions for galley personnel by automatically maintaining pre-set temperature levels inside the galley.
In addition to marine applications, Halton has supplied M.A.R.V.E.L. to over 250 projects, including 5-star restaurants, luxury hotels, health care facilities, shopping malls, schools and exhibition centers.
