Big Rose Colony a
Hutterite Community

Big Rose Colony
The Hutterites, also called Hutterian Brethren, are a self-sufficient communal ethnoreligious branch of Anabaptists who trace their roots back to the Radical Reformation of the early 16th century. They live communally in colonies (essentially farms) where the population is fed from a central kitchen/dining facility. The development of these central dining facilities necessitated commercial kitchen ventilation systems.
Big Rose Colony chose Halton for their kitchen ventilation.

When a colony grows to a particular population, it splits, and a new colony is established. The Hutterites in Saskatchewan have been using our Capture Jet hoods (KVE or KVC) routinely for the past several years when the need arises. Depending on the project size, M.A.R.V.E.L. demand control ventilation systems have been incorporated. In the case of Big Rose Colony, it required Capture Jet KVE hoods with makeup air plenum boxes.
Because the Hutterites prefer to maintain their self-sufficiency as much as possible, they do not engage outside consultants or engineers. They base kitchen designs (including the hoods) on previous colonies. In addition, they receive technical and code compliance support from our local representative, Cypress Sales, in Saskatoon.
