The Vickers All Ranks Dining Facility is the 2nd iteration of a near-identical project, whereby each building intends to serve a designated sector of the Canadian Forces of Base Borden. The 1-storey facility (plus basement and mechanical mezzanine) uses certified wood glulam beams and a high-efficiency building envelope, and is registering to achieve LEED Silver certification. Halton’s Capture Ray hoods contribute to LEED points as they reduce exhaust levels by 30% or more as compared to exhaust only hoods of the same physical size.
LEED strategies also include aggressive construction waste management strategy, increased energy and water efficiencies, and various site strategies which reduce heat island effect (energystar roof) and promote walking or cycling in lieu of driving. Indoor Environmental Quality is a priority through the selection of materials and methods which reduce potentially harmful toxins, as well as increased amount of daylight and views for those working in the facility.
