Overview

The Halton Jaz JLN linear nozzle diffuser features a removable front plate and a dedicated balancing plenum for precise, flexible supply air distribution. It delivers targeted airflow, helping maintain indoor comfort and air quality. The diffuser allows horizontal or vertical air discharge. It can be mounted on ceilings or walls. Individual units may be installed as standalone modules or in continuous rows.

The system manages airflow accurately and reduces noise levels. Its energy-efficient design has optimised nozzle geometry and low pressure drop. This design reduces fan power demand and lowers the carbon footprint, supporting sustainability.

Application areas

  • Office buildings
  • Sports halls and educational buildings
  • Hospitals and laboratories
  • Commercial or public spaces

Key features

  • Duct box with round connection(s) for ducts with a diameter of 100 – 250 mm, with a rubber seal.
  • Balancing plenum with a measurement and control unit.

Operating principle

Fig. 1. Halton Jaz JLN with plenum Halton Pop PLN, operating principle

The diffuser supplies air into the occupied zone through its front panel, enabling both horizontal and vertical discharge. Each nozzle is manually adjustable, enabling one-, two-, three-, or four-way radial airflow patterns to suit installation requirements. Adjusting the nozzle orientation also permits horizontal or vertical swirl stream configurations.

Changes to nozzle direction do not impact pressure drop or volumetric flow rate. For optimal performance, ensure the temperature difference between supply air and room air does not exceed 10 °C, and that the maximum operating temperature for plastic components remains below 60 °C.

Specification

Function

  • Air is supplied through plastic nozzles, each featuring two slits. This is designed to ensure effective mixing with the air in the room.
  • The nozzles are individually adjustable to ensure high flexibility in setting the direction and distribution of the airflow for specific locations.

Materials

  • The diffuser is made of galvanised steel coated with epoxy paintas standard in white (RAL 9003, 30% gloss).
  • Nozzles are made of polyacetal (POM) plastic.

Structure

  • The diffuser is connected to a balancing plenum, which is optionally fitted with a measurement and control module.
  • The diffuser has a removable front panel to allow access to the measurement and control module within the box.
  • The balancing plenum has a sealed connection to the duct.
  • The balancing plenum can be lined with sound attenuation material: mineral wool or polyester fibre.

Installation

Connect the Halton Jaz JLN linear nozzle diffuser directly to a Halton Pop PLN balancing plenum. Install the plenum in a suspended ceiling with M8 drop rods (not supplied by Halton), then connect it to the ventilation duct.

To continue, access the cross-bars by removing the cover caps from the Halton Jaz JLN front panel screws. The cross-bars are located behind these caps.

Insert and tighten screws into the cross-bars until diffusers are flush with the ceiling. Replace the cover caps to complete the installation.

Finally, units can also be connected in a line using special levelling profiles.

String course mounting

The maximum length is 2000 mm. When the length exceeds 2000 mm, several pieces must be placed side by side. Some alignment guides are provided to make mounting easier.

Commissioning

Airflow can be directed in any direction within a full 360° range by adjusting the deflector nozzles. Each nozzle is individually adjustable without removing or detaching the front panel, ensuring optimal air distribution throughout the room.

The diffuser supports one-, two-, three-, and four-way radial airflow patterns (R1–R4)*. The required pattern is selected by adjusting the deflector nozzles to direct air in the desired number of directions. Figs. 4-7 shows the orientation of the nozzles for two nozzle rows (N=2).

Note: The diffuser is supplied only with the guide vanes set to the R1 position (one-directional). All the other patterns (R2, R3 and R4) are done on-site.

For precise adjustment of the supply airflow rate, install the diffuser with Halton Pop PLN balancing plenum box. Equip the plenum with an measurement and adjustment module (MSM)for supply air.

Accurate flow rate adjustment is achieved using the MSM. To measure, disconnect the linear nozzle diffuser and thread the measuring tubes and adjustment spring through it before reattaching the diffuser.

Use a manometer to measure the pressure difference, then apply the formula below to determine the corresponding air flow rate.

qv Total airflow rate, l/s or m3/h
Δ pm Measured static chamber pressure [Pa]

See the table below for the value of the k-factor when installing a diffuser at different distances.

NS Safety distance
> 6D Min 3D
160 19 22
200 49 32
250 51 51

Turn the adjustment spring to set the control damper’s position so the airflow rate is correct.

Secure the damper in position using the screw.

Insert the adjustment spring and tubes into the plenum box, then refit the previously removed diffuser.

Maintenance

Fig. 8. Halton Jaz JLN with plenum Halton Pop PLN, installation

To clean the unit,

  1. Unscrew (see Fig. 4) the front panel to detach the panel from the plenum bracket.
  2. Remove the MSM/MEM module by gently pulling the shaft, never the adjustment spring.
  3. Clean the parts only with a damp cloth. Do not immerse any parts in water.
  4. Refit the removed MSM/MEM module by pressing the shaft until it stops.
  5. Push the diffuser back into place and secure it to the mounting brackets.
